Extra Rule :
While changing the voice of an imperative sentence, follow the steps given below:
- If the sentence is without an object and there is an order/request/advice etc., then the structure of passive voice will be:
- You are ordered/requested/advised etc. + to + V1 + object
- Example: Keep your mouth shut. (Active)
You are ordered to keep your mouth shut. (Passive)
- If the sentence is with an object, it can also be changed to passive voice using 'let'.
- The following structure should be followed: Let + object + be + V3
- Example: Spread the clothes. (Active)
Let the clothes be spread. (Passive)
- If the sentence gives a moral suggestion(and has an object), 'should' is used as a helping verb.
- Example: Help the poor. (Active)
The poor should be helped. (Passive)
- The given sentence gives a moral suggestion(to avoid taking medicines without the doctor's prescription) and has an object i.e. medicine, therefore, 'should' has been used.
So, the final sentence is - Medicines should not be taken without the doctor's prescription.
